Ukraine Joins Global Container Control Program

Ukraine has joined the Container Control Program (CCP) run by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The CCP aims to minimize the trafficking of counterfeit goods, drugs and weapons by strengthening cooperation between the customs and police authorities and maritime institutions of participating states. The CCP establishes container inspection points at seaports and dry ports across the globe, staffed by officials trained to efficiently handle imports, exports and high-risk containers in transit. The container-profiling units can exchange information with counterparts in other countries by using ContainerComm, an application developed by WCO, one of the features of which are alerts notifying local officials of incoming containers likely to be carrying counterfeits, drugs or weapons.

In Ukraine, container-profiling units have been established at the Odessa seaport in southern Ukraine and the Boryspil airport in the capital of Kyiv.
