Ukrainian Authorities Discover Online Store Selling Fake Goods

Ukrainian police cyber crime unit in Zaporizhia region, south-eastern Ukraine, recently received information that fake detergents and shaving products bearing well-known brand names were advertised and sold through an online store.

The police made test purchases and the expert examination confirmed that the products were low-quality counterfeits. In the course of the investigation, the police identified the offender, 34-year-old Zaporizhia region resident, and determined that the goods were distributed throughout Ukraine by both courier services and personal delivery.

The police launched criminal proceedings under Article 229 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (illegal use of trademarks, trade names, and appellations of origin).

The damage caused to the right holders is estimated at EUR 3,300 (USD 3,630).
