Ukrainian Officials Seize Fake Sneakers and Cell Phones
Ukrainian National Police and State Border Guard Service seized over 7,000 sports shoes and 1,000 cell phones believed to infringe well-known trademarks in Odessa Marine Trade Port in southern Ukraine.
Having obtained information about illegal import, the officials detained the container with the counterfeit goods and searched it.
The goods, the total value of which is estimated at EUR 200,000 (USD 214,000), were imported into Ukraine using false shipping documents and disguised as cheap women’s footwear, which in fact constituted only a third of the total cargo.
The Ukrainian authorities launched criminal proceedings and are investigating the criminal scheme.
