Fake Sportswear, Sneakers Destroyed in Bulgaria
The customs officials in the southern Bulgarian town of Svilengrad have recently organized and witnessed the destruction of 3,256 sweat suits, 1,186 sweatshirts, 851 T-shirts, 420 pairs of stockings, 3,300 labels and 1,445 sneakers found to infringe trademark rights of Adidas and another leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel.
The fake products were seized at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point, southern Bulgaria, and intended for sale in Bulgaria and other EU member states.
So far this year, over 20,000 textile products, 7,000 perfumes and 15,000 belts have been destroyed under the supervision of Svilengrad customs officials.
During the first six months of this year, the customs officials in Svilengrad reported seizing over 115,000 counterfeit items, including nearly 90,000 textile products and over 10,000 perfumes. The majority of the seized goods originated in Turkey and China and bore the marks of Nike, Adidas, Armani, Nokia, Tommy Hilfiger, FC Barcelona, Zara and Chanel.
