Burberry Sues Armenian Coffee Chain For Trademark Infringement
British luxury fashion house Burberry has filed a lawsuit against Armenian coffee chain Jazzve, accusing it of infringing on its trademark by adorning chairs in its cafes and restaurants with the Burberry signature tartan pattern, which the British company registered with the Armenian PTO in February 2011.
Burberry sent a cease and desist letter to the Armenian company in November 2011, and has now taken the case to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan.
Jazzve attorney Grigor Minasyan said for the Armenian news portal Epress.am that his client does not believe that it is infringing on anyone’s rights. “The Intellectual Property Agency will discuss the issue of clarifying the trademark. We’re now waiting for the outcome of that examination. If we’re not satisfied with the response, we will appeal to other expert companies,” Minasyan explained.
