Hungarian Customs Seize Fake Alloy Wheels

Jul 3 2018 - 14:59

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NTCA) officials recently seized nine sets of alloy wheels infringing the Vossen® trademark in a car parts store in Győr-Moson-Sopron county in north-western Hungary. It is estimated that the car parts store caused the rights holders a material loss of approximately EUR 12,000 (USD 13,900) by selling and advertising counterfeit goods on the Internet.

The officials first carried out a test purchase by ordering a Vossen®-branded alloy wheel set priced at EUR 530 (USD 615) and advertised on the store’s social media page. The price was suspicious because the value of such an alloy wheel set sold by an official dealer exceeds EUR 2,500 (USD 2,900). When returning to pick up the ordered goods, the NTCA officials raided the store and the warehouse and discovered and seized additional alloy wheels believed to be counterfeit. The representative of the official Hungarian Vossen® importer confirmed that the goods were indeed counterfeit.
