Hungarian Officials Seize 4,000 Bottles of Fake Perfume

Hungarian authorities recently seized over 4,000 bottles of perfume believed to infringe 17 well-known trademarks in Győr-Moson-Sopron County in northwestern Hungary.

The perfumes, with an estimated value of approximately EUR 56,000 (USD 60,000), were discovered during the inspection of a van with Polish license plates that was stopped on a highway.

The shipment originated from a company from the capital of Budapest that was headed to Rotterdam, Netherlands, but was not registered in the Electronic Trade and Transport Control System. During the inspection, the driver presented documents that did not include the description of the goods or their weight. Moreover, the officials found out that the Budapest company was undergoing a forced strike off procedure and was in fact not allowed to carry out economic activity.

The officials initiated criminal proceedings due to infringement of IP rights.
