Hungary Customs Seize Counterfeit Footwear, Apparel

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NTCA) officials have recently seized considerable quantities of counterfeit footwear and apparel bearing well-known brand names.

Following the raids of several warehouses located in the capital city of Budapest, the officials seized more than 20,000 pairs of sneakers and slippers bearing among others the marks of Adidas, Puma and Disney, worth more than EUR 494,000 (USD 541,000); 13,515 fake T-shirts and trousers bearing among others the marks of Guess, Ferrari, Mayo Chix, Vogue, Taylor Swift, 7 Up, Gangnam Style, World of Tanks, Jack Daniels, Chivas Regal and Pinocchio, worth nearly EUR 112,000 (USD 123,000); and 2,906 baseball caps bearing Gap, Diesel and Von Dutch marks, worth approximately EUR 19,000 EUR (USD 21,000).

Moreover, the Hungarian customs officials at the Rajka border crossing with Slovakia recently seized 13,000 pairs of sneakers, worth EUR 220,000 (USD 241,000), found to infringe the intellectual property rights of Converse. The sneakers were discovered in a truck with Hungarian license plates, on its way to Budapest from Slovakia.
