Serbian Customs Seize Counterfeit Sneaker Parts, Pencil Sharpeners

On August 4, the Serbian customs officials at the railway station in Novi Sad, northern Serbia, discovered 60,000 sneaker parts, weighing almost two tons, believed to infringe the intellectual property rights of Adidas.

As noted on the Serbian customs website, it is not uncommon that the counterfeit sneakers are imported in parts, which are then sewed and glued into a finished product by local manufactures.

On July 30, the customs officials at the Sid border crossing with Croatia seized 5,760 pencil sharpeners believed to infringe the intellectual property rights of Angry Birds, a video game franchise created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment.
