Serbian Customs Seize Counterfeit Perfumes, Toys

The Serbian customs officials have recently seized considerable quantities of perfumes and toys bearing well-known brand names, believed to be counterfeit.

On April 27 and 29, the officials at the Batrovci border crossing with Croatia seized 3,500 perfumes bearing among others the marks of Paco Rabanne, Chanel, Kenzo and Calvin Klein and 36,000 toys bearing Disney, Beyblade, Hello Kitty, Monsuno, Winx, Angry Birds and Spiderman marks.

The goods, worth approximately USD 135,000 (EUR 102,000), originated in China and were intended for two Serbian importers.

On May 28, the officials at the Sid border crossing with Croatia seized 11,712 perfumes bearing among others the marks Paco Rabanne, Dior and Armani and 5,760 toys bearing the Ninjago, Beyblade and Ben 10 marks.

The goods, worth approximately USD 250,000 (EUR 190,000), were discovered in a container arriving from Croatia and were intended for a Serbian importer.

On a similar note, the Serbian police recently discovered and seized large quantities of counterfeit sneakers and filed criminal charges against three Serbian citizens suspected to have sold sneakers worth EUR 30,000-50,000 (USD 40,000-66,000) over the past year.

All sneakers bear the mark of the world’s leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment.

After several raids of private homes and other premises in the capital city of Belgrade and the city of Kragujevac, central Serbia, the authorities discovered the fake footwear and large sums of money derived from criminal activities.

The sneakers were reportedly advertised and sold through Facebook, auction sites and other advertising channels. The suspects used various couriers to deliver the goods and received cash upon the delivery of each shipment.
